Join us June 3rd for our Second Annual Sunny Smash CoEd Softball Tournament benefiting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at Garden Center Services. 

Get your team roster together now to get in on the tournament or just mark your calendar to enjoy some sunshine and root on the players. 

 NEW THIS YEAR! 

Teams will choose between two brackets:

• Competitive Bracket: for teams who play in a league and will compete in the Sunny Smash for a cash prize OR 
• Just for Fun Bracket: for teams who do not play together competitively in a league (may or may not have ever seen a softball before) and just want to play at the Sunny Smash for fun. (There is no cash prize for the winner of this bracket.)

EVENT DETAILS

LOCATION: St. Christina Fields in Mt. Greenwood 11149 S. Central Park Chicago

TIME: 8am - First game starts.  Tournament end around 5pm

BRACKET DETAILS

Competitive Bracket is for competitive teams only. Teams will compete for a cash prize of $300. All teams must have 5 women and 5 men on the field during play. All players must be at least 18 years old. Women can wear mitts.

Just for Fun Bracket is for teams that do not play competitively. There is no cash prize. All teams must be Co-Ed - no requirement for number of men/women on the team. Must be 15 years old or older to play. (Players under 18 need parental permission.)

In case of poor weather, a message will be posted to this page with event status updates. 

PARKING

Parking is available on the side streets around the field; Central Park Ave., 111th St. and 112th Pl. You may also park in the parking lot off 111th St. near the Mt. Greenwood Park. Please leave the Central Park Ave. lot open for those who need accessible parking. 

SNACKS & DRINKS

Garden Center will operate a concession stand stocked with water, Gatorade, soft drinks, and snacks. Beer and hard seltzer is available for a donation. Show an ID to receive a 21-Verified wristband for the day. (Concession stand will accept cash/credit).

RESTROOMS

Restrooms are available in the building as well as portable options outside. Accessible bathrooms are available in both locations.

RAFFLES & SPLIT THE POT

We will have raffles throughout the day and two split-the-pot drawings; one at noon and the second at the end of the event. You DO NOT need to be present to win. (Raffles may be purchased with cash or credit)

SPECTATORS

Games start at 8am and will be played across multiple fields. You are welcome to view games at any of the fields.  The most accessible field at which to watch games will be the main field by the parking lot/concession stand. Games will continue throughout the day with the final championship game at the main field at 2pm. You are welcome to come at any time throughout the day, enjoy something from one of our food trucks (see food truck times above), concession stand, play some raffles and enjoy the sunny weather!

SEATING

There are no spectator stands at the fields. There are a limited number of picnic tables in the concession area. Please bring lawn chairs/picnic blankets for seating.
